My Own Story: The Truth About Modeling (1964)

I think that today's models are so boring compared to the 60s girls i.e. Jean Shrimpton, Peggy Moffitt, Penelope Tree, Veruschka, Twiggy, Pattie Boyd etc.

Jean Shrimpton is my personal favorite.

From my personal collection.

  1. Today's models, on the whole, have no real personalities or actual chic themselves. They'e just bony faces who walk funny down the runway. Dorian Leigh, Suzy Parker, Anne St. James, Sunny Hartnett - those dames not only looked fabulous, but wore clothes like nobody's business.

The top models back then did mostly print ads ("fashion shows" were daily, private affairs held at the boutiques themselves, with "house models" showing the clothes, not the overblown rock-concert things we see today), so they HAD to have larger-than-life personalities and looks to jump out at you through still images.

50 years from now, will anyone really give a damn about an image of - well, I'd name a current model, but I can't. And those 1990's "supermodels"? Puh-leeze.

  2. Today's models do have alot of personality. Maybe if you actually read Jean Shrimpton's book you would see how boring she said the fashion world was in the 60s. The models today, not only have to great personalities, but have to do runway shows, nab print ads, do editorials.
This is just a case of, "Everything use to be great back in the day." Do you guys ever go on Style.com? Elle? Vogue France or Vogue Italia? So how would you know the models are boring? The models of today, are the same as the models of back then(Personality-wise). It would be ignorant to say they aren't,especially without sufficient research and just going on your own opinion.
